10 Easy Halloween Party Games for Kids

Planning a Halloween party for kids doesn’t have to mean spending lots of money on decorations, prizes and complicated activities.
Sometimes the simplest games are the ones children enjoy the most!
Whether you’re hosting a Halloween party at home, having a few friends over, or just looking for some fun activities for the family, these easy Halloween party games for kids are simple to set up and don’t require lots of specialist equipment.
I’ve included a mixture of active games, traditional party favourites and quieter activities, so you can choose the ones that work best for your children and your space.

Now let’s get playing!
👻 1. Halloween Freeze Dance
Put on some Halloween music and let the children dance like monsters, witches, ghosts or anything else they can imagine.
When the music stops, everyone has to freeze.
Anyone who moves is either out — or, for a more relaxed version, simply has to do a silly Halloween challenge before joining back in.
Make it more fun
Instead of simply freezing, call out a character before restarting the music:
- Freeze like a vampire!
- Freeze like a skeleton!
- Freeze like a witch!
- Freeze like a zombie!
This one requires almost no preparation and is perfect for getting lots of energy out.
🧙 2. Witch Hat Ring Toss
Turn a cardboard witch’s hat into a simple Halloween ring toss game.
You can make a hat from black cardboard or use a shop-bought Halloween hat.
Place the hat on the floor and give each player several rings to throw.
The aim is to get the rings over the point of the witch’s hat.

Keep score
For older children, give different points depending on how far away they are standing.
You could even have a three-round Halloween tournament!
🕷️ 3. Spider Web Challenge
All you need for this game is some wool or string.
Create a giant spider web by weaving the string between chairs, door handles or other safe anchor points.
Children then have to make their way through the web without touching the strings.
Make it harder
For older children, add a timer.
For younger children, make the gaps larger and let them take their time.
You could also put little Halloween pictures or objects around the web that they have to collect as they make their way through.

🧟 4. Mummy Wrap
This is a classic party game with a Halloween twist.
Divide the children into pairs or small teams.
Give each team a roll of toilet paper and choose one person to be the mummy.
When you say “Go!”, the teams race to wrap their mummy from head to toe.
The first team to finish wins!
A less competitive version
If you’d rather avoid racing, give everyone five minutes to create the funniest or most creative mummy.
Then let the children vote for their favourite.
Just make sure children can move freely and don’t cover their faces.
🎃 5. Pumpkin Hunt
Hide small paper pumpkins around the room or garden.
Give each child a basket, bag or bucket and let them hunt for as many as they can find.
You could make different coloured pumpkins worth different points.
For example:
🟠 Orange = 1 point
🟢 Green = 2 points
🟣 Purple = 3 points
For younger children, simply finding the pumpkins is enough.
For older children, turn it into a timed challenge or hide some pumpkins in trickier places.
👀 6. Halloween I Spy
This is a great quieter game for when everyone needs a little break.
Choose something Halloween-themed that the children can see and give them clues.
For example:
“I spy with my little eye something beginning with G…”
The answer could be ghost.
You could also make this more challenging for older children by describing the object without giving away the first letter.
Make it a printable game
You could create a sheet of Halloween objects and have children take turns choosing one for the others to guess.
🦇 7. Pin the Bat on the Haunted House
A Halloween version of the classic party game!
Draw or print a large haunted house and make several paper bats.
Blindfold one child at a time, spin them gently around and let them try to stick their bat onto the haunted house.
The person whose bat gets closest to the target wins.
Younger children
Skip the blindfold and simply let them place their bats while standing a few steps away.
🕯️ 8. Halloween Charades
Write Halloween characters and objects on small pieces of paper and put them into a bowl.
Players take turns choosing a piece of paper and acting it out without speaking.
Ideas include:
- Witch
- Ghost
- Vampire
- Skeleton
- Zombie
- Bat
- Spider
- Monster
- Pumpkin
- Black cat
Older children can make up their own Halloween charades to make the game more challenging.
🍩 9. Halloween Doughnut Challenge
Hang doughnuts from pieces of string and challenge the children to eat them without using their hands.
This is a fun Halloween party alternative to traditional apple bobbing.
Make sure the doughnuts are securely hung at an appropriate height and supervise younger children.

👻 10. Ghost Hunt
Cut out several paper ghosts and hide them around the room.
Give the children a set amount of time to find as many as possible.
To make it more interesting, write a letter, number or Halloween challenge on each ghost.
For example:
Ghost 1: Do your best monster impression.
Ghost 2: Name three Halloween creatures.
Ghost 3: Walk like a zombie to the next ghost.
Ghost 4: Make your best spooky face.
This turns a simple hide-and-seek game into a mini Halloween adventure.
🎃 How to Choose the Right Halloween Party Games for kids
You don’t need to play all ten games at one party!
Choose a mixture depending on the ages of the children and how much space you have available.
For younger children, try:
- Pumpkin Hunt
- Halloween Freeze Dance
- Ghost Hunt
- Pin the Bat on the Haunted House
- Halloween I Spy
For older children, try:
- Spider Web Challenge
- Witch Hat Ring Toss
- Halloween Charades
- Mummy Wrap
- Ghost Hunt with challenges
And if you’re entertaining a mixture of ages, most of these games can easily be adapted.
👻 Keep Your Halloween Party Simple
The best thing about these games is that most of them can be organised using things you already have around the house.
You don’t need an elaborate Halloween party to keep children entertained.
A few paper ghosts, some string, a roll of toilet paper and a playlist of Halloween music can provide plenty of fun!
You could also combine these games with some of our other Halloween activities.
Start with a Halloween Scavenger Hunt, come back inside for an Indoor Treasure Hunt, then finish the afternoon with some party games.
