Together, they transform children into Egyptian royalty ready to rule their own kingdom!

Why Make Ancient Egypt Crafts for kids?

Craft activities help children engage with history in a fun and memorable way.

As they create and play, children can explore:

  • Ancient Egyptian clothing
  • Pharaohs and rulers
  • Symbols and decoration
  • Creative expression
  • Fine motor skills

These projects are suitable for a range of ages and can be adapted depending on your child’s abilities.

Craft 1: Pharaoh Headdress

One of the most recognisable symbols of Ancient Egypt is the striped headdress worn by pharaohs.

This simple craft allows children to create their own royal headpiece.

You Will Need

  • Yellow or white card
  • Blue marker pens, paint or crayons
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Stapler or tape
  • Optional: gold paper, gems or stickers

Instructions

  1. Cut a large headdress shape from card.
  2. Draw or paint horizontal blue stripes across the headdress.
  3. Decorate with gold paper, gems or Egyptian-inspired symbols.
  4. Measure around your child’s head.
  5. Attach a card strip to create a wearable headband.
  6. Secure with tape or staples.

I used a large plate to trace around the round shape at the top and then free hand drawn the remainder of the shape, using a ruler to keep it even. Don’t worry about it being perfectly shaped.

Extend the Activity

Ask children:

  • What would your pharaoh name be?
  • What laws would you create?
  • What would your palace look like?

Craft 2: Egyptian Wrist Cuffs

Ancient Egyptians often wore decorative jewellery made from gold and colourful stones.

These wrist cuffs are quick to make and perfect for imaginative play.

You Will Need

  • Empty toilet paper tubes
  • Gold paint or yellow paper
  • Markers
  • Gems, stickers or sequins
  • Scissors

Instructions

  1. Cut the toilet paper tube down one side.
  2. Gently open it to fit around a wrist.
  3. Paint gold or cover with coloured paper.
  4. Decorate using Egyptian-inspired patterns.
  5. Add gems or stickers for extra sparkle.

Once finished, children can wear their cuffs while pretending to be pharaohs, queens or explorers.

Craft 3: Paper Plate Egyptian Collar

Ancient Egyptian collars were colourful and often decorated with precious stones.

This paper plate version is simple, inexpensive and looks fantastic.

You Will Need

  • Paper plate
  • Gold Paint, crayons or markers
  • Scissors
  • Sequins, gems or stickers
  • Glue

Instructions

  1. Cut the centre out of a paper plate.
  2. Cut a small slit from the outer edge to the centre hole.
  3. Paint the plate gold if desired.
  4. Decorate the plate with colourful Egyptian patterns.
